IGP North America LLC, Louisville, Ky., has appointed Aris Rollins as Senior Technical Sales Manager for its North American Divisions in the Western US. Rollins started with the company in November of 2015 and will be responsible for New Business Development and Technical Account Sales Management for the Western Region including California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada, and Arizona.

PCI held their annual Hall of Fame Dinner during the Annual Meeting in September at the Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, Nevada.  This year three individuals were inducted to the PCI Hall of Fame, each has served the association for many years and was nominated by industry peers because of their efforts, accomplishments and contributions to PCI and the industry.

Another option to reduce VOCs is to switch from liquid to powder coatings, which are VOC- and HAP-free. Because they don’t emit vapors (or strong smells), powder coating shops don’t require as much ventilation, which can lower cold-climate heating costs. In addition, parts that are powder coated see fewer surface defects, need less rework and tend to be more durable.

The overall November jobs numbers were widely interpreted as a positive for the U.S. economy—a sign that the labor market in general is moving in the right direction. Nonfarm payrolls rose by 211,000 workers in November, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 5.0 percent. One of the larger exceptions to that is manufacturing, which continues to struggle. The sector lost 1,000 employees in November, with zero growth on net since January. Manufacturers remain mired by global headwinds and lower commodity prices.

Powder coating is a baby boomer. In 1962, the electrostatic spray process, developed by Pieter de Lange, entered the industrial finishing marketplace kicking and screaming, and by the late 1970s and early 1980s the technology was growing up quickly. Powder matured as a technology in the 1990s and celebrated its 50th birthday a few years ago.
